Mr. Sanon worked with Mr. Bankman on a financial literacy initiative for low-to-moderate-income adults enrolled in education programs. As part of the collaboration, students who did not have bank accounts could open one linked to FTX’s platform, giving them the option to spend their money on cryptocurrency. Nobody was pushed to buy digital currencies through FTX, Mr. Sanon said, but one participant chose to do so. The State Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve rulesthat would force Hasidic yeshivas and other private schools to prove they are offering basic secular instruction. The vote came after four years of tumultuous debate about how the government should regulate the schools. The state released updated rules outlining what nonpublic schoolslike yeshivas must teach and for how long – with consequences for schools that did not comply.

The FAFSA is used to assess a student’s financial status, and to determine their eligibility for any state or Federally supported financial assistance. The FAFSA is also used by most colleges and universities, as well as the majority of independent scholarship and grant programs, in determining a student’s eligibility for financial aid. Students should make the FAFSA priority number one in their search for grants or scholarships to help them pay for college.
These programs are funded by the state of New York, and are administered through the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation. In addition to ensuring that our core curriculums adhere to California’s Common Core standards, we offer development programs to suit the varying talents and abilities of our students. We also work with homeschooling families and with community groups to support learning objectives. In every way, we are committed to providing integrated, diverse learning opportunities.

He put together the Miami event, selecting the teams of high school students who competed for $1 million in FTX grants. Wearing a baseball cap with FTX’s logo, Mr. Bankman walked onstage to help announce the winners of two $500,000 checks. Behind the scenes, he played the role of FTX diplomat, introducing his son to the head of a Florida nonprofit organization that was helping adults in the area set up bank accounts linked to the crypto exchange’s platform. Two months later, Mr. Bankman-Fried promoted the partnership in testimony to Congress, where he was pushing crypto-friendly legislation. Getter said that marrying and having children at a young age limits Hasidic parents’ ability to make choices, including where their children attend school.

New York State Aid to Native Americans – This program provides tuition assistance to state residents who are members of a recognized Native American Tribe in the state of New York. Eligible Native American students can receive up to $2000 in tuition assistance per year, for up to four years. Students must be enrolled full time at a participating state college or university.
It focuses instead on imparting the values of the fervently religious Hasidic community, which speaks Yiddish rather than English and places the study of Jewish law and prayer above all else. Parents who try to withdraw their children from yeshivas over a lack of secular education often cannot do so, hampered by social pressure and a rabbinical court system. Our seventh and eighth graders have access to some of the finest programs in Shasta County. In middle school, we continue equipping our students for successful learning in high school and beyond.
But when she got home from work each afternoon, she was reminded that her youngest child’s nonreligious education was sorely lacking. At one point, she said, Aaron’s schoolwork consisted of copying single-digit numbers and letters. For the first 30 or so years of Beatrice Weber’s life, she did what was expected of her, starting with her engagement to a young man whom she had met only three times before, sitting across from him at her parents’ dining room table.
The family faces huge legal bills, and they have become the subject of gossip on Stanford’s campus. He and his wife, the Stanford Law professor Barbara Fried, were more than just supportive parents backing their child’s business. Mr. Bankman was a paid FTX employee who traveled frequently to the Bahamas, where the exchange was based. Ms. Fried did not work for the company, but her son was among the donors in a political advocacy network that she orchestrated. So she filed a complaint with the state Education Department in 2019, accusing Aaron’s school, Yeshiva Mesivta Arugath Habosem in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, of breaking the law by not offering an adequate secular education.
